Goolwa, South Australia

Located on the foreshore of Goolwa Beach in South Australia, this Surf Life Saving Club is an essential emergency services asset required for the Southern Fleurieu region. The current club is simply a storage area and an accompanying Patrol Tower. With this new facility, the club will be able to grow in members and provide a greater service to the Goolwa Beach and surrounding areas.

The Architectural design is based on simple rectilinear forms which nestle into the existing dune. The building is split at ground level, falling with the slope of the land. The northern portion of the building hosts the emergency services component of the project including Rescue Boards, Surf Boats, ATV’s and IRB boats, as well as supporting equipment such as flags and shelters. Connecting this building with its natural surroundings has been the focus of the design. The building will blend over time and weather into the environment.
